RTX3080 problems

Just wanted to let you know, there is something fishy with the unity engine when it comes to an RTX 3080 (game version 18.2)
The game is not really one of the demanding ones, still the card gets very hot, the fans start rotating like crazy and after a while there is heavy graphic stuttering.
The heat goes up already on the loading screen, when no 3D graphic is shown at all.

The performance on my old GTX1070 was a lot better, even if not perfect - the fans would still run quite fast, but it was definitly better. Even Doom Eternal won't heat up my graphics card as much as this game does.

After a little digging I learned that apparently this is a bug in the Unity engine that has already been fixed, but not all developers have upgraded to the fixed build. Can you look into this and see if you are using a up-to-date build of your engine version?
Currently the game for me is unplayable.

From what link did you get such information?

I think it was one of these, there have been several topics about the high GPU and CPU usage of the unity engine. The faster the card and CPU, the worse it gets, so it seems.
But I must admit, I could not find the post about the already fixed bug again. Either it's in one of the other threads or it was removed, I don't know.

While looking for that post I did find another information about a new windows feature "Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling" and it was suggested to deactivate that. I'll try that and post the results asap.

OK, I tried that suggesstion now.
Actually I had this windows setting already turned off, so I tried to turn it on instead and it actually did some good.

Just for info: I'm running a Ryzen 3080x system with 32 GiBs of RAM, the RTX 3080 runs at 1080p @120 Hz refresh rate (I'm planning to switch to 2160p @144Hz soon). A game like this should run with ease (and many others do that).

Anyway ... The GPU usage with this setting is now about 50%, which is still a LOT, but it's progress still.
The stuttering comes and goes, and when it's there, it's by far not as bad as it used to be.

There is only slight stuttering now. About 3 or 4 times per second the game stands still for a moment. Between these pauses it seems ro run smooth however. So it's not low frame rate, but something that blocks the whole thing. Here's a short clip showing it.

It's far from being perfect or as good as it was with an older graphic card, but it's playable.

Good to know. I personally ran into a problem with HAGS in No Man's Sky. It doesn't work well for all games. The game still shouldn't be hiccuping every few seconds; I don't see anything like that on a 2080Ti. The only stutter I get is when the game Autosaves. Are there any kind of 3xxx-/RTX specific features you can manually turn off in the NVIDIA Control Panel? Any other background software (even including GeForce Experience, etc.) you can disable?

I will add disabling HAGS as a troubleshooting option in our guides.

About the features: I'm afraid not, after reading your post I tried to set everything to standard and also to deactivate everything that seemed to be new to me.
I tried to disable as much as possible (even the MIDI-synthesizer), but except from version updates I didn't install any new background software anyway since I swapped the GTX 1070 for the RTX 3080.
I never use GF Experience anyway and only activated the Windows Game Bar to record the video.
With 12 CPU cores that should not be necessary anyway.

Sometime the game runs perfectly smooth for a bit (even with AA and any other enhancement I could find in the drivers set to max, I tried with and without enhancements). Then the stuttering begins, sometimes really really bad. As I said, it comes and goes.
I DID have the impression (but I might be wrong there) that it gets better if the character stays in one room, but that might just be a concidence and me trying to find a pattern, since it's not always like that.
Here's another example where you can see better how bad it is currently when it happens.

The high GPU/CPU usage is something that most 3D Unity games have in common, but in Houseparty's case it's worse than in any others I can think of (except maybe the demo of the Tomb Raider 2 Remake, that gopt the fans turning fast as well).
But stuttering like this I have only seen in this game so far.

Did you do a full uninstall of the old drivers (via something like WagnardSoft DDU or official NVIDIA instructions) upon installing the new card? Are you using the latest drivers?

A new version of the game is coming out very soon. Give that a shot and see if you notice any improvement. We've made a number of optimizations since 0.18.2 came out.

Do you have any hardware monitoring tools you can use to indicate (an MSI Afterburner monitoring graph would work) whether these stutters/issues coincide with actual GPU and/or CPU usage spikes? A video PLUS a graph side by side might help us pin something down. Unfortunately that's just the level of detail we need for something like this if it isn't a driver, 3rd party software, or Windows issue. We've got staff with 2xxx cards, I have a 2080TI, and we've got one 3090 that are locked at 60FPS...but we are also looking into another report of unexpectedly low FPS on a higher end system, so the more info from more systems, the better.

Yes to both answers (there are no badly outdated drivers for the RTX 3080 anyway, older drivers don't support it).

I'm looking forward to the new version (don't forget to upload it on GameJolt), I keep my hopes up :)

At the moment I am at a point where I think it will be solvable through driver settings, once I found out how.

I found a couple of older games and programs which have an unexpected high GPU usage. Looks like some engines try to grab whatever there is available even if they don't need it instead on relying on timers. Looks like I have to find a way to manually reduce the available GPU power for specific programs.

Who'd ever think that a graphics card can be too fast ...

ps: No, I didn't run monitoring yet, just the standard CPU usage view in the windows task manager. Nothing really out of the ordinary happened there however. All 24 threads on 12 cores run quite normal, when the suttering happens, nothing special is to see.

Are you running VSYNC in-game, or forcing VSYNC to a specific setting in the NVIDIA Control Panel?
Using GSYNC or FreeSync at all?
How about any FPS limiters (either 3rd party or in the NVIDIA Control Panel)?

No idea what you did, but the new version (19.4) runs just fine :)
I also updated to the driver version 466.63 from last week, so I can't say if the update is responsible or the driver.

To answer your questions anyway:
I tried to run the game with and without VSYNC, no Freesync or GSync however. I tried to set my refresh rate to 120 Hz and to 60 Hz, no difference (it's an old Asus monitor for 3D gaming ... good times).

AFTER my previous post I did try to limit the framerate to 90, that helped to slow down the card, but didn't solve the problem.

For the moment it looks like everything is working as it should

Thanks for taking my problem seriously.
