All custom story content is lost?

For older custom stories that do not work with the last one to three releases of House Party. Please be very specific as to what versions of the game the story you post will work with. Any posts without documented confirmation of version compatibility or significant user complaints of said story NOT working with the documented game version will be removed.

All other rules and expectations pertaining to the Custom Story Showcase apply. Since this subforum is intended specifically FOR old stories that will likely not work with future House Party client versions, we will not have any auto-pruning of 'old' or 'unviewed' posts, etc. going on.

Re: All custom story content is lost?

From my pov, all the old story should rest in peace with the old game version.
As eek!games doesn't provide old game version, I can see a point to get a custom story that is known as not working with recent build (due to alcohol move from table to cabinet and so on).
So that's my pov, stories for unsupported version should not be made publicly available as it will provide more unwanted error report that won't get fix until a newer version of that custom story is released.

Note: this is only my pov, and not the one of eek!games.

Hello ttant.

I understand and that is a legit and reasonable stand for the company and developer efforts.

I was just thinking about the players who like the older versions for the custom stories who have saved the previous versions
so they can continue to play them as well as for the creators who would like to start with a popular foundation for a new and
updated CSC build to put out for the newer game versions like some of the redone releases that have come out for 0.8.3 and
0.8.8 from previous versions. Most everyone understands that the custom stories are released by fans of the game who have
stepped into the custom story creator as a hobby to see what they can do with it while other creators are a bit more into the
project enough to update their releases for other players to use and enjoy.

I guess I can just leave the fact that I do have a fairly large inventory of the lost custom story collection for those who may be
interested in aquiring a copy for their own use, including updating the stories to run with the newer CSC and game versions so
they can reach out to me to send them a copy if that is ok with you and the other developers?

I do not want to offend any of you or the creators of any of the stories I saved the original .zip and .rar files from before the
crash of the custom story library.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and all of your efforts and those of the Eek Games team.

Best regards always!

Can you give me a run down of the custom stories that are still viable for the 7.3 to 8.3 game versions so I can go through my
collection of saved zip and rar files to see if I have some that could be uploaded back to the forum for those out there who've
saved the previous game versions so they can still play the older custom stories?

I have a fairly large collection of them and I saved the original zips and rars so that I could share them if needed.

I even have copies of the ones their creator made updated versions of.

Have a great weekend!
Not sure that we're going to be able to do that. We never kept an inventory of Custom Stories; mainly we just ensure that folks are not uploading stories that are meant to fail or completely broken in ways that border on trolling. If you take a look back through our patch notes and ignore fixes for the Original Story or additions to our own official content, any core gameplay changes, removals, or additions could have impacted Custom Stories. I would say that realistically, anything from before 0.8.x is most likely not going to function as intended, if it even functions at all.

That being said, if users want to keep an old version locally on their PC to play through older Custom Story content, then that's fine. We have no problem with that. What we could do is create an archive subforum here, and put any stories that are outdated by say, a public release or two into that subforum. That way the main Showcase can stay fresh, without eliminating older Custom Stories unnecessarily.

In regards to your collection I would say organize and post them (as long as they aren't posted already/duplicates) in accordance with the forum formatting rules. This will give users running older game versions content to come back to and possibly inspire/provide examples that will help future story creators.

Hello again erasmus,

Thank you so much for your response and information post. Very informative and understandable. I see exactly what you are referring to and I
can most definately aggree. It would be logical to add a note to each one I have, since I kept the custom stories that I found actually worked
well with the various versions of the game that I have played them on, which is why I keep a local copy of each previous game version on my PC
so I can continue to enjoy the fun they offer.

I will work out the process and post them once I have a proper understanding of the process and if you do go the way of a "sub-forum" for this I
will post them there and include a note about which game versions I found each one to work well with in my own experiences so other players
who are interested, or are looking to replace their lost content for any reason will be able to know in advance which custom story works with
what version of the game in case they do not have that version available. Thus limiting the occurances of breaking the game trying to run that
custom story with an incompatible game version.

Does that work for you, and ttant if ttant is reading this of course?

Thanks again and keep up the great work! :D :D :D

Works for me, just be very specific as to what version of HP each story works with. The more documentation the better. Other than that thank you for your initiative and for keeping a collection! Subforum for archived/old stories should be active now.
